Jaci Smith stayed strong over the final two miles and dipped under the U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying standard in the 10,000 meters Friday night at Icahn Stadium, clocking 32:10.31.

Smith, an All-America performer at Air Force who completed her eligiblity in 2019, ran 18 seconds under her college-best time and beat Allie Kiefer, who was second in 32:52.89. The Trials standard is 32:25.00.

Icahn Stadium, located on an island in the East River, proved to be a good place for a socially distant meet in the middle of the five boroughs.

A trio of prep standouts also ran very well.

Aidan Puffer from Manchester CT, a junior representing Tinman Junior Elite, lowered his personal best in the 5,000 meters to 14:24.18. He finished third in a race won by Ezra Mutai, a former NCAA Division 2 champion who ran 14:02.07.

The Lawrenceville School NJ junior Charlotte Bednar lowered her New Jersey state record to 16:21.67 in the 5,000 meters when she crossed the line second, behind Stanford grad Maddy Berkson. Bednar's performance is No. 7 all-time among juniors and 19th all-time overall. Berkson ran 16:16.0 for the win.

Gavin Sherry of Conard CT broke the all-time state best for 3,000 meters by running 8:19.21 for second place behind Jamie Dee. Sherry, a junior, ran faster than Erik van der Els' high school best of 8:20.11.

Two-time Olympian Donn Cabral of HOKA ONE ONE NYNY TC won the men's 10,000 meters in 29:21.35.
