On Friday Night under the lights in NYC, Trials of Miles and Bakline will be hosting the Big City Invitational. This meet will feature a men’s and women’s mile, 3K, 5K, and 10K with some packed fields. To watch the meet live starting at 6:55 P.M. Aaron Dinzeo (New England Distance) enters the competition as the top seed and only man to break 14:00, but he will have plenty of company as D2 National XC Champ from 2019 Ezra Mutai (American International), John Bleday (NYAC), former Canadian Junior 5K record holder Ibrahim Kedir (La Salle), Thomas Slattery (Fordham ‘20), and Ryan Renken (UPenn) will all look to challenge up front. Look out for Connecticut high school junior Aidan Puffer who will look to build upon his 14:25 from three weeks ago. The Connecticut state record is 14:16.61 set by Alex Ostberg back in 2015.
Women’s 5000 Meters
Maddy Berkson and Ivette Mejia enter the event as the top two seeds but watch out for high school stars Sydney Masciarelli (Marianapolis Preparatory School, CT) and Charlotte Bednar (Lawrenceville Prep, NJ) who will both be looking for personal bests. Bednar ran 16:25 two weeks ago and Masciarelli 16:30 the week prior.
Men’s Mile
The Hofstra University mile record of 4:16 seems all but gone, but how low can Alex Masai take it? After a breakout winter season where he ran 7:53 for 3K and 13:27 5K, Masai seems to be rounding into good form. He will have Dominican Republic National 800 Meter Record Holder Tayron Reyes and two 3:44 1500 pacers in his attempt for a big personal best!
Women’s Mile
Kaitlin Ryan from Stanford University is the top seed in the Women’s mile but she will have NJ high school junior Miranda Lorsbach, 4:33 1500 runner Sasha Whittle, and 2:16 800 runner Haley Ritsema all looking to contend for the win.
Men’s 3000 Meters
Jamie Dee from Iona college enters the Men’s 3K as the top seed, but recent Fordham University grad Ryan Kutch will be looking to challenge. Also look out for Connecticut high school junior Gavin Sherry (Conrad HS) who will be looking to challenge the Connecticut State 3K record of 8:20.11.
Women’s 3000 Meters
Abbey Wheeler from Providence College will lead a deep field filled with local talent including Rachel Schilkowsky, Olga Kosichenko, Meggie Sullivan, Melissa Lodge, Henna Rustami, and Leigh Anne Sharek. High School senior Chloe Scrimgeour who has a two mile personal best of 10:48 should also be in the mix.
Men’s 10,000 Meters
Olympians Donn Cabral (USA 2012, 2016) and Mohamed Hrzei (Libya 2016) join Zach Zarda and Brendan Martin who will lead another deep distance field of sub 30:00 hopefuls. Zarda placed 8th in the 10K in 2008 at USA Nationals and appears to be fit based on his recent performances in the Trials of Miles/Tracksmith Virtual Cross Country series.
Women’s 10,000 Meters
Allie Kiefer recently ran a solo 15:41 5K on the track and looks to build upon her 32:09 10K personal best. With her will be Jaci Smith who recently graduated from Air Force and will be looking to challenge the Olympic Trials 10K standard of 30:20. Chasing Kiefer and Smith will be a deep field including sub 16:00 5K runner Lindsay Chevoiserat, 33:06 10K runner Regan Rome, 2:36 marathoner Marie-Ange Brumelot and others who will look to challenge the 34:00 barrier.
